Cloud AI, Same Privacy

Voibe runs in one of two modes, and that is the only decision you make. In On-Device Mode, everything happens on your Mac and nothing ever leaves it. In Cloud Mode, your dictation is transcribed by larger, more accurate open-source models on zero-retention cloud providers: your audio is deleted the moment it becomes text, the text is never stored, and nothing is ever used to train any AI model.

You choose a mode during setup, and you can change it at any time in Settings. The rest of this page explains each step in detail.

Audio deleted instantly

In Cloud Mode, your audio is deleted the moment transcription completes. Only the text comes back.

Text never stored

Formatting happens in the moment and the result comes straight back to your cursor. Nothing is kept.

Never used for training

No AI model ever learns from your words. We only use open-source and open-weight models.

Nothing to set up

No API keys, no model picking, no vendor accounts. Voibe handles all of it in the background.

Nothing to set up, nothing to manage

Other dictation apps that use cloud AI hand you the hard work: sign up with an AI vendor, paste in an API key, pick a model from a list of names you have never heard of. Voibe asks for none of that.

  • No API keys to bring. You never create an account with an AI provider or paste in a key.

  • No models to pick. Voibe chooses the models, keeps them current, and runs them for you.

  • No bills to watch. There is no usage meter from a third-party vendor. Your Voibe plan covers everything.

You make exactly one decision: on-device or cloud. Voibe recommends the right mode for your Mac's hardware during setup, and everything else works in the background.

Where your data goes in Cloud Mode

Two short trips, and nothing stays behind at either stop.

Your Mac

You speak. Voibe captures the audio and encrypts it.

Speech cloud: audio becomes text

Whisper Large Turbo, an open-source model running on Groq or Cloudflare, transcribes your audio.

Audio deleted here, the moment the text is ready

Formatting cloud: text gets polished

GPT-OSS 120B, an open-weight model running on Cerebras, cleans up the text. It only ever sees the words, never your voice.

Nothing stored here either

Back on your Mac

The finished text lands at your cursor. Your Mac now holds the only copy that exists.

Nothing left behind in either cloud

In On-Device Mode this whole journey happens on your Mac. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Your voice: transcribed, then deleted

  • Your audio travels over an encrypted connection to one of our speech providers, Groq or Cloudflare.
  • It is transcribed by Whisper Large Turbo, an open-source speech recognition model.
  • The moment transcription completes, the audio is deleted. Only the text comes back to your Mac.
  • Your voice is never stored and never used to train any AI model.

Your text: polished, then returned

  • Only the finished text is sent for formatting. No audio, no extra information, just the words.
  • It is polished by GPT-OSS 120B, an open-weight AI model, running on Cerebras.
  • The cleaned-up text comes straight back to where your cursor is.
  • Your text is never stored and never used to train any AI model.

What is never done with your data

  • Your audio is not stored.
  • Your text is not stored.
  • Nothing is used to train any AI model.
  • We only use open-weight AI models, and not proprietary models from the popular research labs or hyper scalers.

Our providers do not retain what is sent for processing. You can read their policies here: Groq privacy policy, Cloudflare privacy policy, Cerebras privacy policy.

Tips for choosing your mode

  • Start with the recommended mode. During setup, Voibe checks your Mac's hardware and recommends the mode that will work best on it.
  • Not happy? Switch and compare. Open Settings, pick the other mode, and dictate a few sentences. Keep whichever feels better; you can switch back just as easily.
  • Going offline? On-Device Mode works with no internet connection at all. Cloud Mode needs one.

You're in control

You make this choice when you set up Voibe, and you can change it at any time in Settings. Choose the on-device model and nothing leaves your Mac: your voice is transcribed entirely on your Mac, exactly as private as it has always been.

Whichever you choose, your words stay yours.
