Zero-retention cloud mode processes audio transiently on zero-retention providers and deletes it the moment transcription completes; the full pipeline is documented on our Cloud AI privacy page. For regulated environments, we recommend on-device mode.
Can I use it in an air-gapped or restricted network environment?
Yes, in on-device mode. On an Apple Silicon Mac, dictation runs entirely on-device using the Neural Engine: fully offline, no internet connection, ideal for network-restricted environments.
