No audio detected

You hold the hotkey and speak, but no text appears and you don't see Voibe's audio meter moving. The hotkey is working β€” the microphone isn't being captured. The four fixes below cover ~99% of cases.

30-second checks first

  • Voibe icon shows the recording animation when you hold the hotkey?
  • You're not muted at the system level (control center mic toggle)?
  • Another app isn't currently holding the mic exclusively (Zoom, Meet, FaceTime)?
01

Confirm microphone permission

Without microphone access, Voibe receives silence. macOS may have revoked permission after an update, or you may have skipped granting it on first launch.

  1. 1. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
  2. 2. Find Voibe in the list and confirm the toggle is on.
  3. 3. If it's already on but Voibe still doesn't capture audio, toggle it off, then back on.
  4. 4. Quit Voibe and relaunch.

Voibe only listens while you hold the hotkey β€” see Permissions for the details.

02

Pick the right input device

Voibe uses your Mac's currently selected input device. If a Bluetooth headset is paired but not in your ear, an unplugged USB mic is still listed, or your AirPods went to sleep, you can be capturing nothing while a perfectly good built-in mic sits idle.

  1. 1. Click the Voibe wave icon in the menu bar.
  2. 2. Hover Microphone to see every available input.
  3. 3. Pick the one you want β€” usually MacBook Pro Microphone (or your Mac's built-in mic) for best results.
  4. 4. Test by holding the hotkey and speaking; you should see the audio meter move.

We recommend the built-in mic for sitting-at-desk use β€” see AirPods & Bluetooth Microphones.

03

Test the mic in another app

Rule out a hardware or system-level problem before deeper Voibe debugging.

  1. 1. Open Voice Memos from Applications.
  2. 2. Tap the red record button and speak.
  3. 3. Stop and play back. If you can hear yourself, the mic and macOS audio stack are fine β€” the issue is between Voibe and your input device. Re-check fix 2.
  4. 4. If Voice Memos also captures silence, the issue is hardware or system audio. Try a different physical input device, or restart the Mac to reset CoreAudio.

04

Quit and relaunch Voibe

If something at the macOS layer reset while Voibe was running β€” a sleep/wake cycle, a Bluetooth disconnect, or an audio device change β€” Voibe sometimes needs a fresh start to re-bind to the mic.

  1. 1. Click the Voibe wave icon › Quit.
  2. 2. Relaunch from Applications or Spotlight.
  3. 3. Try the hotkey again.
