Glaido Review: The Indie Dictation App Grew Up — But It Still Lives in the Cloud

I didn't need three weeks with Glaido to size it up. Its pricing page, privacy policy, and platform list told me most of what I needed to know.

And the story has moved fast. Glaido launched in May 2026 as one developer's Mac-only app. Four months on, it runs on Windows too, it's a registered company, and it names who processes your audio.

Glaido swaps your keyboard for your voice. Hold a hotkey, talk, and it drops the text wherever your cursor sits. It calls itself "the voice layer for every app" and claims "the world's fastest dictation."

Who makes Glaido

At launch, Glaido looked like a one-person side project with no company behind it. Not anymore.

Its privacy policy names the operator: GLAIDOVOICE AI SOLUTIONS - FZCO, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates and licensed in Dubai (DIEZA). There's now a real legal entity, a written privacy policy, and appointed EU and UK data-protection reps. That's a genuine step up.

Which platforms it runs on

• macOS — yes.
• Windows 11 — yes, and it shipped since launch (the site used to say "coming soon").
• Linux, iOS, Android, browser extension — none.

What you get

Dictate anywhere, get AI-cleaned text, in 100 languages. What sets it apart from a plain dictation hotkey is the layer on top: AI auto-edits and Agent Mode, both now free.

Glaido does more than transcribe. Here's what you actually get.

• System-wide dictation. One hotkey types into any app.
• AI auto-edits. It punctuates, capitalizes, and strips filler on its own — you don't dictate the commas.
• Agent Mode. Glaido's AI-workflow layer, now free (it used to be Pro-only). The docs are thin on what it actually does, so treat it as promising, not proven.
• Custom dictionary and prompts. Add your names and jargon, and steer the output style.
• 100 languages.
• Prioritized processing (Pro). Faster queue, early features.
• Team features (Enterprise). SSO, SAML, dedicated processing, API access.

None of this is unique to Glaido — AI cleanup, custom vocabulary, and multilingual support are standard in 2026. But the bundle hangs together, and putting Agent Mode in the free tier is a generous call.

Yes, Glaido is free to start. The Basic tier costs nothing, needs no card, and has no trial clock. But the paid plan is the priciest in its class.

What Pro really costs

Glaido sells the annual plan as "save 17%," which puts month-to-month at roughly $20. Either way, it's a subscription. There's no lifetime option.

3-year cost vs the alternatives

Judge a subscription over time, not by the monthly sticker:

• Glaido Pro: $204/year → $612 over 3 years.
• Wispr Flow Pro: $144/year → $432. That's $180 (29%) less than Glaido, on more platforms, with audited compliance.

Dictate every day and Glaido's missing one-time option is its weakest spot. Dictate now and then and the free tier may be all you need — it's one of the more generous ones out there.

Is it really "the world's fastest"?

That's Glaido's line, not a measured result. No independent benchmark backs it, so read it as marketing.

Your connection sets the speed

Glaido runs in the cloud. Every dictation round-trips to its servers — and on to AWS, Baseten, and Groq — before text comes back. So your internet decides how fast it feels: near-instant on fast Wi-Fi, sluggish on hotel Wi-Fi.

An on-device tool skips the round-trip because it transcribes locally. Voibe does exactly that — it runs Whisper on your Mac's Neural Engine, so speed never depends on your connection and works with no internet at all. Glaido has no on-device mode, so it can't. The site says "private by design," "stored on your device," and "zero data retention." Here's what the privacy policy actually means.

Your audio goes to the cloud

The policy names the processors: AWS, Baseten, Groq, and Hetzner. Your audio is transcribed on their servers, not on your Mac or PC. Naming them is real progress — at launch, Glaido disclosed none. But it also confirms "private by design" doesn't mean "on-device."

"Stored on your device" means text, not audio

Straight from the policy: Glaido "does not store your dictation text in our database; a temporary local history is kept only on your device." So the local part is a transcript cache on your computer. The audio still travels out to get transcribed.

"Zero data retention" is a promise, not an audit

Glaido says it keeps no text server-side, and its processors hold no audio past transcription. Reasonable design. But it's a self-made claim from a closed-source app — no SOC 2, no ISO 27001, no outside audit.

Compliance

Glaido covers GDPR in detail and has EU and UK reps, which helps European users. It publishes no SOC 2, no HIPAA BAA, and no ISO 27001. For PHI or privileged work, that rules it out.

If "my audio never leaves my machine" is the bar

A cloud-only app can't meet it — Glaido included. Voibe can: its on-device mode keeps audio on your Mac and works fully offline, and even its cloud mode is zero-retention, with no account and nothing used to train a model. Glaido fits you if you

• Want AI formatting and an agent layer without configuring anything.
• Are in the EU and value Glaido's explicit GDPR posture.

Choose Voibe instead if you

• Want offline or on-device dictation — Glaido always sends audio to the cloud; Voibe keeps it on your Mac.
• Want a one-time price — there's no Glaido lifetime tier, and $204/year is the class's priciest; Voibe is $149 once.
• Care about privacy you can rely on — on-device audio never leaves your machine, and Voibe's cloud mode is zero-retention with no training on your voice.
• Write code — Voibe's Developer Mode resolves file and folder names in Cursor, VS Code, and Windsurf; Glaido has nothing like it.

Two cases where Voibe isn't the answer: you need mobile apps (neither Glaido nor Voibe has them — Wispr Flow does), or you need open-source, auditable software (both are closed).

Here's the honest gap: Glaido has almost no independent review record. As of September 2026 I found no Product Hunt score, no G2 or Capterra profile, and no Trustpilot page.

That's not a knock — it launched in May 2026. But it means you're judging Glaido on its own claims and public record, not on a crowd of users.
